I'm sure we all want to have well mannered dogs that are a joy to share our lives with. How do we get dogs that are obedient and well behaved? We train them. Training should begin very early in a puppy's life with behavior modification. Do you have a plan for training your new puppy to be a well behaved companion? Finding A Local Dog Trainer
Finding a local dog trainer can be as simple as asking other dog owners in your area for recommendations. You can contact reputable breeders and ask who they use for dog training. Or you can start your search at the Certification Council For Professional Dog Trainers. However you start your search, be prepared to take some time to find the trainer that is the best fit.

Most trainers have areas of expertise. There are also many training styles. Find a trainer who can help you accomplish your goals in a manner that works with you and your dogs personalities and learning styles. Sometimes it is helpful to try a class or two to get a feel for how well you will work with a specific trainer.

Remember that you are your dog's best advocate. If the training is not fun and rewarding, you should try a different trainer. Ideally, you will find a local trainer who uses positive training techniques and gets along well with you and your dog. If you do not feel good about your training sessions, or your dog is scared or not upbeat after time in class, definitely look elsewhere for a training partner.
